What is the difference between gospels and epistles

Hebrews is perhaps the most hotly debated. There is also an argument by early church historian Eusebius that Clement of Rome, an early Christian bishop ordained by Peter, translated Hebrews into the version we have today.

In other words, Clement took an original version of Hebrews written in, well, Hebrew , and created the stylized Greek version that scholars have today. As a Zondervan Academic article noted , that would actually mean Clement reworked Hebrews, changing the structure to get the particular Greek style we have today.

Therefore, if Eusebius was right, we would consider Clement a co-writer of Hebrews. From a content perspective, they provide an interesting look at what the first generation of Christians looked like. Many of the debates described in these epistles still continue today, under different labels. The epistles advising on how to run churches provide much-needed advice on how to select elders, pastors, and so forth.

Epistles like Romans help us to know not only the basic content of the Gospel message but its implications for our lives. Share this. What Is an Epistle? What Are the Epistles in the Bible? Connor Salter Contributing Writer 21 Nov. What Books Are in the Epistles? The Epistles were written by apostles after the ascension of Jesus to the newly formed Church.

They make up the remainder of the New Testament. Some Christians believe the Epistles are divinely inspired, some don't. Allah knows best. The Torah is the Law of God given to the Jews which gives us knowledge of what's wrong and what's right according to God, this Law is the Holy Law that condemns us because no one has ever followed the Law perfectly except for Jesus. The Gospel tells us that we are sinners deserving of Death BUT the good news is that God loves us and doesn't want for us to perish and due to His love He sent His only-begotten Son to die for our sins so that we may live in Him Christ and have peace with God and everlasting life.

His sacrifice for us was not just about washing away our sin but also about breaking the bondage we were in due to our sins. When we were in the Kingdom of Darkness we were slaves to sin but now that we're in the Kingdom of Heaven which is only found in Christ we've been freed from the shame and oppression of our sin and receive God's grace and mercy. Thus, we've been freed from the condemnation of the Law, the Law is still God's Law and is still Holy and perfect but it was not meant to save us but to show us that we needed saving because of our bondage to sin.

God's grace and mercy is what saves us and we receive His grace and mercy by believing in His Son. The largest number of epistles is called Pauline epistles or Corpus Paulinum. These were generally thought to be written by Paul and the names of different epistles are based on the persons or groups to who they were addressed to.

Of these, the first is now expected to be written by Paul the apostle, and the author of the last is not known though it is attributed to Paul. The other lot of epistles is called general or Catholic Epistles and they are not written to any specific group, but to the Church in general. During the medieval times, they were not published together with the epistles written by Paul but taken separately in the Praxapostolos.

The first of these is the epistle of James and this James is 'the brother of the Lord'.
